HazMat Worker Program Information
Tuesday, October 11th, 2011
With just 4 years into the full implementation of Ontario’s new 278/05 (Asbestos Certification required across the board) a new trade begins to surface in Ontario!
Ontario is introducing the Hazardous Materials worker as a new fully certified trade. Workers will receive a certificate of Qualification from the MTCU once there applications are processed. This new certification will stand for all jobs where worker may encounter or work with hazardous materials. This will include Mold, Silica, Guano, and asbestos to name a few.
How do you get your certification?
Biggs and Narciso is rolling out a program to assist our employees being certified. What we need from our employees is for them to come in and sign their applications and review them. If we cannot verify 3000 hours of hazardous material work for you we ask that the employee go to his former employers for a letter of experience. We will also need a copy of everyone’s 253W card for the application.
What is the cost? Who’s paying it?
For our 506 members you will be pleased to know that we have spoken with the Training center and they will be covering the 60 dollar application cost to the ministry.
For our 1059 members we are still in discussion on who should be covering the cost of their applications.
